Meditate On The Word

feature photo

It is one thing to read Scripture, but it is another thing to meditate on it and make it a part of us. Fact is, God instructed Joshua to meditate on His Word when he began to lead the children of Israel.

Joshua 1:8 (AMP)

8This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.

The question is, how do we meditate on God’s Word day and night?

The answer, we simply take one verse a day or a week and think about it continually. We memorize it. We say it over and over. We look up the verse in a study Bible and learn what the words actually mean.

Take the following verse for example.

2 Timothy 1:7 (AMP)

7For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

  • Who is God? He is our God. He is the God of heaven and earth. That is big. He is El Shaddai. That means He is the God of more than enough in every area of our lives.
  • Has not (means God never has and never will) given us a spirit of fear. What is a spirit of fear? It is a spirit of terror, intimidation and cowardliness. God has not given us that kind of spirit.
  • What has God given us? He has given us power. What kind of power? Christ’s power. The Holy Spirit’s overcoming power.
  • God has given us love. What does God’s Word say about love? Perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18). It can lift us high above every situation or problem.
  • God has also given us a sound mind. What is a sound mind? It is a mind controlled by the Holy Spirit — well-balanced, disciplined, self-controlled and pure.

To summarize, we should not limit ourselves by simply reading God’s Word because by meditating on it we can overcome any situation when the Word of God dwells richly in and becomes a part of us.

God Bless!
