We Must Surrender Our Lives
We often think of surrender as losing something. However, when Jesus willingly went to the Cross so we could have abundant life, we did not lose anything. In fact, we gained everything! It was truly the ultimate act of surrender.
The dictionary defines surrender as, the act of yielding oneself to the power, control, authority or influence of another. Jesus showed us what surrender genuinely is. He was totally surrendered to God.
First, Jesus surrendered His position in heaven to come to a world that did not even know who He was.
Isaiah 53:3 (AMP) says, He was despised and rejected and forsaken by men, a Man of sorrows and pains, and acquainted with grief and sickness; and like One from Whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we did not appreciate His worth or have any esteem for Him.
Additionally, Jesus surrendered His will to His Heavenly Father every day when He walked on the earth, and He surrendered in the Garden of Gethsemane when He prayed, Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but [always] Yours be done. - Luke 22:42 (AMP)
Lastly, Jesus surrendered it all when He went to the Cross, knowing that all the sins of the world would be laid on Him… and He would suffer like no one had ever suffered. His surrender led to ultimate victory.
That being said, we are all surrendered to something in our personal lives. Some people surrender themselves to busyness, to money, to drugs or to sexual sins. Basically, people surrender themselves to whatever is more powerful and more important to them than God.
However, Jesus said, No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (deceitful riches, money, possessions, or whatever is trusted in). - Matthew 6:24 (AMP)
In conclusion, when we change our allegiance over to Jesus and surrender our lives to the Heavenly Father as He did, the power of ungodly influences and their dominion over our lives can be broken. In other words, we must surrender to God?s Spirit and let His Word rule our emotions, our thoughts, our actions and our responses.
God Bless!
